UNH Recruits Update: Dec-3-2013

2015 UNH Recruit
Warren Foegele

Player of the Week - Warren Foegele

St. Andrew's College is a university-preparatory school in Aurora, Ontario, about 30 miles north of Toronto. The varsity hockey team plays in two different leagues. The Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association (CISAA) includes 4 other prep schools in Ontario and one in Buffalo, NY. The Midwest Prep Hockey League includes 6 prep schools from the Upper Midwest of the United States and 4 Canadian prep schools.

Over this past weekend, St. Andrew's and their senior alternate captain Warren Foegele took a break from league play and made the 600 mile trek to Belmont, MA for the Belmont Hill's Jamboree. The Saints competed against three New England Prep Schools - Belmont Hill, Winchendon, and Governor's - and won all three games. For the NE Preps, the games were considered early season "scrimmages" and consisted of three 15-minute periods. St. Andrew's began their season in mid-November and entered the Jamboree undefeated in their first 10 games of the 2013-14 season.

In the opening matchup against Belmont Hill, the 6'1", 182 lbs., Foegele (Pronounced Foe-gull) scored a hat trick, which included the game-winning goal, in the Saints' 6-2 victory. Foegele figured in all 6 St. Andrew's goals, scoring three and assisting on the other three.

In the Saturday noontime game, St. Andrew's downed the Winchendon School 7-4 and Foegele scored another goal. The Jamboree wrapped up late Saturday afternoon with a contest between St. Andrew's and Governor's Academy. Once again, Foegele lead the Saints with 2 goals and 3 assists in a 7-0 shutout.

The U.S. Hockey Report covered the Jamboree and provided this analysis of Foegele's performance (the USHR article also appeared on the St. Andrew's website):
"For St. Andrew’s, Foegele, who is almost certain to hear his name called at the NHL draft next June, was a constant force in all three zones, and very strong on the puck. He’s a determined, hungry player who plays through guys, protects the puck well, and has a skill level that it is equal to his compete level."
Warren Foegele (DOB: 4/1/1996) is a senior at St. Andrew's and is eligible for the 2014 NHL draft. U.S. Hockey Report is the first scouting entity to identify Foegele as a likely NHL draft pick this June. When Foegele committed to UNH last February, he indicated in an interview with this blog that the Fall of 2015 is the target date for his enrollment. He also described his plan to play Junior A hockey in the 2014-15 season. Last August, Foegele participated in the Penticton Vees (BCHL) training camp and posted an assist in his first exhibition game. Unfortunately, he became ill and missed the remainder of the Vees' exhibition games.

NOTE
The statistics for the recruits, presented in the table, are categorized by the year the player and UNH coaches have targeted for enrollment in UNH. For example, the "2014 Recruits" have a target of the Fall of 2014 to begin playing for UNH.
