UNH and Casey DeSmith Shut Out Colorado College 3-0

Junior Casey DeSmith
Registers 3rd Shutout

On the strength of outstanding goaltending by Casey DeSmith and three goals by the Nick Sorkin-Kevin Goumas-Matt Willows line, the UNH Wildcats earned their second victory in as many days against struggling Colorado College. DeSmith deserves the #1 Star for his 32 saves. Here's DeSmith in action in the third period with UNH ahead 1-0 and CC pressuring:

Senior Nick Sorkin continued his scoring blitz with his 11th goal of the season. The goal came at 12:28 of the second period on a UNH power play. He was assisted by Kevin Goumas and Justin Agosta. Sorkin knocked home a rebound off a Goumas deflection. Sorkin has scored 8 goals in his last 9 games.

After killing off two penalties early in the third period, UNH would grab a two-goal lead on a pretty goal by senior Kevin Goumas at the 17:26 mark. It was a classic individual effort by Goumas as he carried the puck through the neutral zone and into the CC end then ripped a wrister from the top of the slot beating goalie Josh Thorimbert:

Colorado College pulled Thorimbert twice over the final two minutes. With 50 seconds remaining in regulation, Thorimbert went to the CC bench for the second time and Kevin Goumas scored an empty net goal - his second goal of the night and 7th of the season:

With the two-game sweep of Colorado College, UNH improved its record to 9-7-1. CC's record fell to 1-10-2. UNH plays Boston College next weekend in a home-and-home series. Friday night's game is at the Conte Forum and Saturday's is at the Whittemore Center. BC is in the midst of a two-game losing streak. Maine beat them 5-1 last Saturday and Holy Cross downed them 5-4 on Friday.
