2014 UNH Recruits At A Glance: Updated
UPDATE: John Furgele becomes the third defenseman to commit to UNH for the Fall of 2014. He joins Dylan Chanter (Dubuque Fighting Saints) and Cameron Marks (Coquitlam Express).
At the end of the upcoming season (2013-14), UNH may lose as many as 4 defensemen. Eric Knodel and Justin Agosta are academic seniors this year. However, neither suited up for a regular season game as freshmen so both will have one year of NCAA eligibility remaining after this season. Knodel is the UNH Captain this season and was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2009 NHL Draft. He has attended 5 consecutive Player Development Camps with Toronto over the last 5 summers. He is very likely to sign an NHL contract at the end of this season.
In his junior season at UNH, Trevor van Riemsdyk will be UNH's Alterate Captain. In the summer of 2012, TvR was invited to the Player Development Camps of the Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Flyers. Last season, he was named a First Team All-American. As an undrafted, free agent, TvR is likely to be offered an NHL contract at the end of this season.
In June, sophomore Brett Pesce was drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the third round of the NHL Entry Draft. He was the 66th overall pick. Pesce participated in the Hurricanes' Player Development Camp in July. As Brett's game improves and he fills out his 6'3" frame, he will be under increasing pressure to leave UNH early and sign a contract with the Carolina organization.
