It seems like forever since Friday night!
And what a night it was.
Gilford, NH native, Alan Thompson, nets his first goal in the Blue and White after a career filled with injury and rehab. The marker comes in his 26th game through four years and three seasons as a Wildcat. Way to go, Alan!
Derry native, Paul Thompson, fights his way back into the lineup, first playing well last weekend in the second game against BU and finding his scoring touch against Vermont on the first line with upperclassmen Peter LeBlanc and Captain, Greg Collins - though it was the Captain's fellow senior Jerry Pollastrone out in Collins' place at the time.
Both scored go ahead goals with the game deadlocked, Alan's breaking the 1-1 tie early in the third period and Paul's coming early in the second period when the game was still 0-0.
And who gets two assists on the night but Kevin Kapstad who picks up right where he left off after having his scoring streak broken during that tough weekend against BU. Kevin's stats stand at one goal, twelve assists over the last twelve games. This is a senior playing with his heart on fire and he seems to have ignited the rest of the team.
Way to go, guys!
Now a look back before we look forward.
UNHWildcats.com held a fan-vote poll asking Wildcat Nation to pick their favorites across the various positions from the past 25 years of Hockey East and the results are in.
Goalie: Ty Conklin
Defense: Jayme Filipowicz, Garrett Stafford
Forwards: Jason Krog, Darren Haydar, Mark Mowers and Mike Radja (whose name will certainly come up in this week's WWAW!)
and
The Unquestionable, Indisputable, Irreplaceable Fan-Favorite: Steve Saviano.
Just looking at the list gives me goosebumps! Narrowing the list down so much is almost a travesty to all the Wildcat greats who did not garner quite as many votes but these are certainly worthy picks, now if we can just get them all back to this year's Alumni Game!
One thing I am sure of is that any of the alums that can make it for this weekend's games will be looking forward to the next installment of the UNH vs. Maine rivalry. This year's home-stand doubleheader will be split between the Whittemore Center on Friday night, televised on NESN, and the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester on Saturday night.
Our Wildcats will have to fight and win to further improve their postseason prospects as Maine has recently dropped out of the pairwise rankings. Taking care of business this weekend would go a long way toward building momentum from the Vermont game down the remaining ten game slate.

I couldn't be more excited for the Maine game, especially after waiting close to 2 hours in the student ticket line this morning!
What is Brad Flaishans up to these days?
Flaishans.
Haven't heard.
With his incredible academics I'm sure he has secured whatever financial position he desired.
To the best of my knowledge he has not pursued hockey.
Wildcat Nation, I've found, is full of information so perhaps someone out there will share if they have heard anything.

Interesting, especially considering he was an All-American. Why do you think Charlebois hasn't yet gone to pursue his professional career, his rights being property of the Blackhawks?
I would think he's sticking out the academic situation that he's in and perhaps he is looking for a deal but we probably won't hear until something happens.
