TOCT2: UNH 1 - MC 0
I'm going to be trying a new live blog format tonight after seeing my fellow blogger, Merrimack's Mike McMahon, using it. Let's hope it works! Brought to you by CoverItLive.
Time to give it that old college try once more in the final home game of the regular season!
It's Senior Night.
Captain, Greg Collins. Defenseman, Kevin Kapstad. Forward, Jerry Pollastrone. Forward, Alan Thompson. Defenseman, Jamie Fritsch. Forward, Thomas Fortney.
Unfortunately we will not likely see Senior Defenseman and Co-Captain, Joe Charlebois, whose Rockford IceHogs are due in San Antonio, Texas to face the Rampage.
TUMHB Senior Review.
Greg Collins. Our Senior Captain has played in 139 games to date for the Blue and White. He has 19 goals and 23 assists through his four years saving the best for last, a career best, 6 goals and 8 assists this season.
Kevin Kapstad. This Senior Defenseman has saved the best for last as well, having a breakout season to the tune of 1 goal and 20 assists this season - the first UNH defenseman to eclipse the 20 assist mark since Brian Yandle did it back-to-back in the 04-05 and 05-06 seasons. Playing in his 111th game tonight Kevin owns a career total of 8 goals, 31 assists.
Jerry Pollastrone. Not having had the best first half of the season, this Senior Forward has recorded 5 goals and 9 assists in the last fourteen games - a pace just above that which he had maintained throughout his sophomore and junior seasons. His career totals stand at 33 goals and 59 assists through 143 career games, just eight points shy of the 100 point plateau.
Alan Thompson. This Senior Forward has been plagued by injury for years but has persevered through it all to emerge as a key cog in this year's team. Having played in just 33 career games, 26 of them this year, Alan still maintains one year of eligibility which he could put toward increasing his career totals of 2 goals and 4 assists.
Jamie Fritsch. Recording his first goal of the season last night, this Senior Defenseman has been a little off of his career pace which spans 139 games where he has accumulated 11 goals and 26 assists from the blueline with 10 points, 11 points, and 10 points respectively for his first three seasons. He currently has his 1 goals and 5 assists but the season's not over yet and all of Jamie's points have come since January 10th, 2009.
Thomas Fortney. Another Senior Forward who is just a little behind his career numbers this season but continues to be a steady hand for the Blue and White after 145 career games for the Wildcats. His 15 goals and 28 assists, 13 points, 13 points and 14 points in his first three seasons, are likely out of reach in his final season where he stands at 2 goals, 1 assist - but it's not over yet.
And lastly, Joe Charlebois. This Senior Defenseman had been a mainstay of the Wildcat Defensive corps since his 2005-2006 freshman season where he posted 2 goals and 3 assists. A prototypical defensive defenseman for which he was awarded the 2008 Hockey East Best Defensive Defenseman award, Joe only ever amassed 18 points through his first three seasons while playing 109 games. Before his season was cut short, due to academic ineligibility, at 18 games, a career mark of 127 matches, he had already totaled 9 assists.
