Haydar Records First NHL Goal and Assist *NEW LINK*
Darren Haydar has recorded his first career NHL goal and first career NHL assist in just his second game with the Atlanta Thrashers this season and in his 8th career NHL game.
Darren got his Thrashers on the board scoring just 35 seconds after John Madden(U.of Michigan) of the New Jersey Devils had given the Devils the lead at 1:46 of the first period. Darren's goal is recorded as being scored at 2:21 of the first period on October 13th, 2007. It is reported as a snap shot from 30 feet out.
At 7:46 of the second period Darren would feed the puck to Garnet Exelby to put the boys from Blueland up 3-2 for their first lead of the game and giving Darren his first NHL assist, second NHL point and first two point NHL game. His Thrashers would go up 4-2 before giving up three unanswered goals to fall behind 5-4.
But Ilya Kovalchuk, has just scored to tie the game at five!
*UPDATE*
...only to be crushed by a powerplay goal with 28 seconds to play. Atlanta is still struggling as is evident by the fact that they scored on nearly a third of their shots - that's right, they scored five goals on just 17 shots being outshot more than 2-1. Still. This night saw them record as many goals as they have in their first four games. Lookin' up.
Haydar finished the night 1-1-2, +2 and is credited with 2 takeaways. Way to show them Darren!
Congratulations! Keep your head up, the W's will come!
Oh yeah, his first NHL goal - scored on Martin Brodeur!
Go 'Cats!
