Happy Hockey Monday!
Topping the list - Darren Haydar, is named captain of the Chicago Wolves. After putting up consistently high numbers since his debut in the AHL, in which he earned the Dudley 'Red' Garrett - Rookie of the Year honors, Darren was fatefully reunited with Wildcat linemate, Jason Krog (think 98-99 when Krog earned the Hobey Baker with an 85 point season alongside Haydar, 61 points, and Mike Souza with 65! And our boys falling just short in the Wildcats' first ever Runners-Up NCAA Tournament finish). Last year saw Darren put together a season in which he would lead the league in points and capture the Les Cunningham - AHL MVP award.
Darren and Jason (who posted and incredible 80 point season in just 44 games) were reunited in Chicago once again this year and connected for a goal, scored by Krog, in their first game.
Way to go guys!
Coming in just behind Darren and Jason is Daniel Winnik. After struggling mightily in his first professional year Daniel found his footing and earned a position with the Phoenix Coyotes and in his NHL debut found the back of the net in what would prove to be the game winning goal. I caught a few glimpses of his second game versus the Bruins on NESN and he was definitely a presence on the ice. Very nice work man!
But that's all I have time for right now. I'll be reworking this post as I put together more info so check back for updates and be sure to check the updated stats in the recruit section as well.
Go 'Cats!
