For Your Long Weekend

A nice little story brought to us by 'Bag-Oh-Donuts' from the USCHO message boards as we head into the long holiday weekend, concerning Daniel Winnik. I've title-linked an article that 'B-O-D' posted a link for and will paste two quotes below.

Thanks 'B-O-D'!

Surprised Phoenix as well I’m sure. Two entries from coverage by hockeysfuture.com…

End of May:
"Daniel Winnik started his rookie season with the Rampage only to be sent down to the Roadrunners to find his game. When he was brought back up, he continued with the same results. He finished the season below expectations at 21 points (9 goals, 12 assists) in 66 games for San Antonio."

End of Sept:
“Another pleasant surprise coming out of Phoenix is the story of Daniel Winnik. After having a rough transition season last year with the Rampage, he’s bounced back and is in contention for one of the final roster spots with the Coyotes. It’s going to be quite the story if the former ninth-round 2004 pick makes squad [note: he made it for now], but if he needs to get quality minutes and consistent play, expect him to be on one of the San Antonio’s top lines.”

With this move Winnik will be one of just two 'Cats, him and Mark Mowers, to start the season in the NHL but don't be surprise to see a number of call-ups for others through the year as Bryan Muir, Ty Conklin, Jason Krog, Darren Haydar and Garrett Stafford are all currently knocking on the door of the Big Chill.

Hey, Daniel, I still think you should have stayed for another year but that's the last time I'll bring it up! Promise! ;)

Good Luck, Dan!

Go 'Cats!
