Cup Coaching and Staff - Did They Go To College?
Since I brought it up and no one else has done it, here it goes... still no 'Cats, oh well... great, now I'll have to do a feature on coaching 'Cats!
ANAHEIM
GM - Brian Burke - Providence (hometown boy backstory with Providence)
Asst. GM - David McNab - Wisconsin (championship goaltender)
Asst. Coach - Newell Brown - Mich. State (became Asst. at Mich. State after just three years out from playing - story for the Mich. State blogger?)
OTTAWA
Asst. Coach - Greg Carvel - St. Lawrence (No joke - was and Asst. at Anaheim in 03-04!hmm... his backstory, like Burke's is a hometown boy, would probably make for a good post for the St. Lawrence blogger if there is one...)
Overall some seemingly interesting personalities in these managing/coaching former college players. Congrats to all of them on their success.
I would be interested to see some in-depth reporting from their respective bloggers.
As always,
Go 'Cats!

I was not aware of this.
JFR,
Brian Burke's hometown is Edina, Minnesota he graduated from Edina West in 1971 or sometime around there.
I stand corrected Brian graduated in 1973.
This is a broadening mystery then as I recall seeing that he was born in RI (although I can't currently find where I read this and then there is this on the official Ducks site...
"Born in New England and raised in Minnesota, Burke originally joined the Canucks in June, 1987 as vice president and director of hockey operations."
Hmm... Brian Burke - International Duck/Fryer of Mystery?
Go 'Cats!
All straightened out folks - and TUMHBG stands victorious!
Brian Burke, GM and President of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, was born on June 30th, 1955.
He was born in Providence, Rhode Island and it stands to reason this has something to do with why he chose the Fryers for his collegiate hockey career. That and the fact that the team was coached, not surprisingly, by the one and the same Lou Lamoriello. Hockey roots definitely mean something.
Brian helpfully enunciated what would most likely be correct info for his high school years and later corrected his graduation date assuming he played college straight out of high school.
He also played with some guy named Ron Wilson when playing for PC.
Hmm.
Go 'Cats!
I have always known and agreed that Brian Burke was born in Rhode Island but certainly he grew up in the same hometown as mine. He just attended the wrong high school in Edina. West is gone from the radar but they still suck! Go Edina (East) Hornets!!!
I found a fun little article on Burke from the Pioneer Press.

Just messing around with you Brian.
I figured you had an inside track.
Thanks for the info and the link.
And thanks for reading the UNH Hockey Blog!
